If you could give advice to a new writer starting out, what would that be?

Don’t give up! It’s so, so easy to say but honestly, I thought about giving up a couple of times    and dealing with agent and/or publisher rejections can be difficult, but as they say, it only takes one ‘yes.’ Getting my book published has impacted my life in lots of positive ways and I am grateful every day that I kept going even when it felt hard. I know lots of amazing writers who didn’t get a book deal overnight (hardly anyone does!) and so the key for anyone starting out is persistence. Keep writing, keep submitting to agents, keep doing little things that might push your career forward. Don’t waste time beating yourself up over small things, and don’t compare yourself to other writers – it’s not worth it. If you focus on your own writing and your own self-belief, you will get there in the end. Good luck!
